GoalSir, September 21, 2024 – According to British media HITC, following the failed attempt to bring in Jude Bellingham, Manchester United hopes to sign Sunderland’s 17-year-old midfielder Chris Rigg, with the transfer potentially being finalized next summer. Manchester United believes he can become the next Roy Keane or Jude Bellingham.

The media outlet stated that Manchester United vigorously pursued Jude Bellingham in 2020, but the transfer did not materialize. Now, Manchester United is interested in Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg and believes he can reach the same level as Bellingham. Manchester United is considering finalizing this deal to avoid repeating the mistake of 2020.

Manchester United noticed this talented player when Rigg was 15 years old and continued to closely monitor him as he broke into Sunderland’s first team. In fact, Manchester United’s scouting department firmly believes that Rigg has the potential to grow into the “new Robson” or “new Keane” for the Red Devils.

During this summer’s transfer window, multiple clubs, including Manchester United, hoped to acquire Rigg, but the young player wanted to stay at Sunderland for development and signed his first professional contract.

However, according to HITC’s understanding, Manchester United’s management is closely monitoring Rigg, and Sunderland is also prepared to accept offers. Relevant sources believe that Manchester United may reach an agreement during this winter’s transfer window and officially introduce the young player next summer.

So far, the 17-year-old Rigg has played 31 matches for Sunderland’s first team, with 1,306 minutes of playing time and three goals scored. He has also represented England’s U17 team 17 times, scoring two goals and providing one assist. Currently, Rigg’s Transfermarkt value is estimated at 300,000 euros.
